Dion Waiters was acquired by the Oklahoma City Thunder last week in a big 3-team deal between the Thunder, Cavs and Knicks.
With Waiters in the fold for the Thunder, it seems like in the future, Thunder reserve point guard Reggie Jackson would be on his way out of the Thunder, either this summer or by trade deadline next month. The rumors are aplenty and now, it seems like Jackson isn’t phased by it.
Darnell Mayberry of the Oklahoman asked Jackson how he is handling the new trade rumors and having someone brought in to seemingly replace him as the Thunder’s sixth man.
“Probably better than you are. Y’all are bringing it up,” Jackson told reporters. “I can’t control it. I just go play whenever I’m put on the court. That’s about all I can do, all the control I have. Just go from there. I’m happy (Waiters) did well. I’m happy he made a big shot. I’m just happy we got a win.”
Great answer by Jackson. Love his response to this.
Jackson does want to win with this team, he’s been a part of good things with the Thunder team and has been talked about for future plans too, but Jackson doesn’t seem himself as a bench player, not at all. The Thunder don’t either and they aren’t shying away from it because Russell Westbrook is here to stay.
So a deal for Jackson might be in the works. Long term the answer might be to go with Waiters, well long-term meaning at least until the end of Dion Waiters rookie deal which expires in 2016, as that guard off the bench coming in for Westbrook. Right now though, it’s a question of what they can get for Jackson. Do you take a pick or make a deal hat somehow makes your team better?
