The inevitable finally happened, but before I talk about the OKC Thunder’s chances now that they’re past the first round, let me just applaud the Dallas Mavericks.
I said before the series started that they would steal two games. Sure they only got one but considering that Deron Williams had to sit out and the first game was their worst Playoff performance in franchise history, they did really well. Justin Anderson is the future of that franchise if they use him like they did in this series, Dirk can STILL get it done and they made this series interesting.
But the series went to the Oklahoma City Thunder, other than game 2 they didn’t miss a beat. Honestly, they proved that they have chops, and they will need that when they face the San Antonio Spurs. In their final game against the Mavs Russell Westbrook was a rebound away from a triple double, Kevin Durant got 33 points and 7 boards. Steven Adams got a double double! That is what they need, that third guy to get a double double, get their points when it comes to them.
Durant and Westbrook will always attempt to get it done. But to win games they need one more person to have a great game, they destroyed the Mavs when Kanter was on point and they cruised to this win with Adams having a great game. It’s a basic formula, probably a formula that Popovich and the Spurs can easily suss out, but it’s something and when that beast duo are plugged in, anything can happen.
