Mitch McGary has been given chance after chance after chance with the Oklahoma City Thunder over the last two years. Unfortunately for him, it appears his time has run out.
The Oklahoma City Thunder had to make some roster cuts ahead of the Monday deadline to submit opening night rosters. It appears Mitch McGary, and his 15 game suspension, has been cut along with reserve point guard Ronnie Price and two more players.
The Thunder made the news official in a press release.
The Oklahoma City Thunder waived forwards Mitch McGary and Chris Wright along with guard Ronnie Price and center Kaleb Tarczewski, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti.
For McGary, a man who was looking to get his life back on track, this comes as a slight shock. The Thunder roster is loaded at the forward/center position so his chances at making the roster were very slim. He had to out perform recently signed Joffrey Lauvergne to make the roster and it didn’t work out.
For Price, who was also signed in the offseason, his spot as the Thunder backup point guard was almost guaranteed after the news of Cameron Payne’s broken foot was revealed by the team. The veteran was waived in favor of Semaj Christon and his unguaranteed contract.
