The Oklahoma City Thunder are set to open their 2015-16 NBA season against the new-look San Antonio Spurs reports the Oklahoman. This is a well-known rivalry at this point as they have had multiple close battles recently. This will be the second time in four years that Oklahoma City will play San Antonio to kick their season off.
Both teams have substantially improved this offseason, however in different ways. The San Antonio Spurs got better via free agency where they got arguably the catch of the offseason in 4-time all star big man LaMarcus Aldridge. Aldridge will add a completely new dimension to thsi Spurs team and his silky smooth mid-range stroke fits perfectly into the offense orchestrated by Gregg Popovich. They also re-signed wings Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. A starting lineup of Tony Parker, Danny Green, Kawhi Leonard, Tim Duncan, and LaMarcus Aldridge is one of the best in the league.
The Thunder have also gotten much better as they will get arguably the best player on the planet back in Kevin Durant. Durant suffered through an injury riddled season and looks to bounce back next season. Combining that with the elevated play of guard Russell Westbrook and one of the scariest teams in the league resides in Oklahoma City. This marquee opening day match-up should be a good one and maybe even a Western Conference Finals preview.
