THE SHINING (1980)
Stars: Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall, Danny Lloyd
Quote: “Heeeeeeere’s Johnny!”
Synopsis: A family agrees to take care of an isolated hotel in the Colorado mountains where they start to experience evil spirits and see events from the past and future.
Scare Factor: ‘The Shining’ is basically one extremely bad case of cabin fever. Jack Nicholson perfects a husband who is driven off his rocker and into the mindset of a homicidal maniac. Director Stanley Kubrick sticks to fear and ambiguity rather than gore to scare its audience which makes this film a classic. The film keeps its creepy atmosphere throughout with its haunting soundtrack. Even the slightest movements or soft spoken words instantly send a chill down your spine. The complete isolation only amplify the horrors within the Overlook Hotel. If we learn anything from ‘The Shining’ its that all work and no play will make you a dull boy.
