PSYCHO (1960)
Stars: Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, Vera Miles
Quote: “She just goes a little mad sometimes. We all go a little mad sometimes.”
Synopsis: After a secretary steals $40,000 from her boss’ client, she checks into a motel that is run by a shy and timid man who is more than what he seems.
Scare Factor: What hasn’t been said already about ‘Psycho’? The score is a part of pop culture history, the infamous shower scene is one of the best recognized of all time and its actors are legendary. The film has very little action but somehow still manages to have a ton of suspense and mystery. It doesn’t rely on gore or ‘gotchas!’ to keep people out of the shower. Alfred Hitchcock’s cutting edge filming technique and special effects help keep the horror classic at the top of the pack for more than 50 years. If there is one thing we have learned from this film, it’s not to trust a man with mommy issues. Oh and did I mention this was the first time a toilet was shown on the big screen? Truly terrifying.
