Welcome to Thirteen Nights of Fright where the movies only get scarier from here. For the next thirteen days, we will countdown the most frightful movies in entertainment history for your viewing pleasure, if you can handle it that is. In honor of the remake just hitting theaters we will kick things off with the cult classic…….
CARRIE (1976)
Stars: Sissy Spacek, Piper Laurie, John Travolta
Quote: ‘They’re all going to laugh at you!’
Synopsis: A tormented and unpopular girl in high school discovers she possesses telekinetic powers and uses them for revenge after a horrible prank at her high school prom.
Scare Factor: Carrie is no Matilda. Instead of using her powers to embarrass an evil principal, Carrie slaughters an entire class and burns the school to the ground all in 3 minutes. Talk about hormones right? I mean you would too if your overly religious mom constantly locked you in a closet and classmates told you to ‘plug it up’ during your first period. The Stephen King adaptation is mostly build up but the payoff at the end is worth it. The cult classic portrays the cruelty of teens and takes us back to our own high school days which I’m sure have been more frightening than being drenched in pig’s blood during your high school prom.
