Today Paramount released the first trailer for their upcoming biopic Rocketman. Rocketman is based on the life of Elton John as a young man with Taron Egerton set to play the pop singer.
The trailer doesn’t give much away in the way of plot, a voiceover of Egerton’s John plays over most of it. But, it does deliver a peek at one element that might elevate this film above other similar biopics. The film’s creators have hinted that it will be a surreal fantasy musical and that is on full display in the trailer. The flashes of Egerton in various wild costumes and the final shots of Elton making an entire room of concert-goers fly with his music show that. But this trailer also gives a hint of the turmoil John faced as a young man with many shots of a seemingly older John in distress. This trailer promises a trippy, grounded adventure through the singer’s life. It’ll be interesting to see how those tones mesh in the final product.
