After 13 seasons, The Wendy Williams Show will come to an end on Friday.
“The final original episode of ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ will air on Friday, June 17th with a video tribute to the iconic host. The series comes to an end after 13 successful years in syndication,” a spokesperson for The Wendy Williams Show told Variety.
It does not appear that Wendy Williams will take part in the show’s final episode. The show’s host has massed several episodes throughout the last two years as she battles Graves’ disease. In her absence, a number of celebrity hosts have stepped up to fill her role in a temporary capacity, including Nick Cannon and Keke Palmer. This Friday, Sherri Shepherd is scheduled to lead the show’s final episode as a guest host.
After The Wendy Williams Show comes to a close on June 17, 2022, Sherri Shepherd is expected to lead her own syndicated talk show called Sherri. Sherri will take the time slots previously filled by The Wendy Williams Show on FOX stations.
As for Wendy Williams, it is unclear when or if she will return to television due to her health. However, Debmar-Mercury Co-Presidents Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus have left the door open for Williams if the opportunity presents itself.
“It’s not like we have a Plan B where we hit a button and it’s back in a week, but we do have the desire to be in business with her, if she can come back and be healthy, and so does Fox,” Bernstein said.
“Other than her health, she could have continued to keep doing it as long as she wanted. She was still getting a rating and she has a die-hard audience that turned it into a profitable show,” Marcus added.
