Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye has partnered with Blue Bottle Coffee to launch his own line of coffee products. Named after his mother, Samra Origins will include a wide array of blends and flavors that will honor his Ethiopian heritage.
“Ethiopian culture is an important part of my identity and I’m proud to work alongside the Blue Bottle Coffee team to shine a light on Ethiopian traditions, values, and of course, coffee,” the singer shared in a press release.
“Growing up, I watched my mother perform Buna Tetu, a traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. This sensory experience helped shape my understanding of community and taught me to always honor my roots.”
The Weeknd is not only working to launch his own line of coffee products, but he is also venturing into the world film and television. This summer, HBO is set to unveil the first episode of The Idol. Led by Tesfaye and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, the series will explore the fast, dark life of a self-help guru and his relationship with an emerging pop star.
The Weeknd’s Samra Origins will launch on May 9, 2023 and The Idol will debut on June 4, 2023.
