DC and Warner Bros. have had a busy day, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. After previously announcing The Batman will hit theaters on June 25th, 2021, the two also revealed the premiere date for the upcoming Suicide Squad sequel The Suicide Squad is set to hit theaters on August 6th, 2021.
Not much is known about the film’s plot or cast but expect Will Smith and Margot Robbie to reprise their roles for the sequel. James Gunn, who helmed both Guardians films for Marvel is attached to write The Suicide Squad‘s script. Gunn was fired from Marvel in 2018 after inflammatory tweets from his past resurfaced.
DC and Warner Bros. also announced that their newly announced DC Super Pets will release on May 21, 2021. To fill the space in 2019, Warner Bros. has moved Doctor Sleep up from January 24th, 2020 to November 8th,2019. Doctor Sleep is a sequel to the classic novel/film The Shining, it is based on a 2013 novel of the same name.
Again, not much is known about many of these films as they are so far off. In the meantime, DC has plenty of super-powered fares to tide us over though. Shazam! and The Joker both hit theaters later this year on April 5th and October 19th, respectively. Then, in 2020, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) and Wonder Woman 1984 release on February 7th and June 4th, respectively. There’s also a rumored Green Lantern Corps movie set to hit theaters on July 24th, 2020. However, little has been shared about that film’s development so there’s a good chance it gets delayed.
