Corey Stoll and Billy Magnussen have signed on to join the growing cast of The Sopranos prequel movie, The Many Saints of Newark. Jon Bernthal, Vera Farmiga, and Alessandro Nivola had all been previously announced to star. It’s expected that more Sopranos will join the ensemble film before it beings production in earnest.
Not much is known about plot specifics but the film will take place during the Newark riots in the 1960s. The Sopranos creator, David Chase co-wrote the film alongside producer Lawrence Konner. Alan Taylor is attached to direct The Many Saints of Newark with Nicole Lamber and Marcus Viscidi set to executive produce. Stoll and Magnussen’s roles are being kept secret at the moment but we do know that Alessandro Nivola will portray Dickie Moltisanti.
Stoll has recently appeared on the big screen in last year’s First Man as Buzz Aldrin. He is likely most notable for his small screen roles on House of Cards, The Romanoffs, and The Strain. He will appear next in Netflix’s One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest series. Magnussen will appear later this year in Netflix’s Velvet Buzzsaw and Disney’s live-action Aladdin.
The Many Saints of Newark has yet to receive a release date.
