Chandler Parsons became a fan favorite in Houston, Texas. People in Houston fell in love with Parsons personality, supporting Houston sports teams, and CP had more of a female fan base then men due to his looks. Many insider’s believe Dwight Howard would not be in a Rockets uniform if it wasn’t for Parsons. Right before the 2014 free agency kicked off Chandler fired his current agent and picked up Dwight’s agent in Dan Fegan. Fegan is known for getting owners to over pay players he represents. Parsons kept calling Dwight all the time in the off season going over things about the city, team, and winning a championship together in Houston. Parsons would call Dwight would talk about staying in Houston, with Dwight saying “Stay on the team. That could be us holding the trophy together in Houston.”
Rockets GM Daryl Morey had 1 more year on Parsons rookie scale contract which was set to pay him no more than a million for 1 year, but choose not to pick up the option. Morey allowed Chandler to test the market as a restricted free agent, before reassuring Parsons that he would match any offer that he received.
During the 2014 free agency Parsons was spotted at a night club in Orlando, FL with arch rival and instate foe Mark Cuban. Later that night we were all surprise to hear Parsons was signing a contract with the Mars for 3 years worth $45 million about $15 million a year.
Morey took the full-time allowed to decide, but ended up not matching the Mavs offer for Parsons
making him a Maverick. Morey went on a radio station in Houston to explain the next day saying
“The contract that was presented to me basically was the worst I have ever seen, it was a contract that was impossible to trade and we wanted to keep are options open”
Shortly after Morey decided not to match Parsons offer sheet and had a back up plan in Trevor Ariza and signed him to a 4 year deal for $32 million contract about $8 million a year.
Tonight Parsons makes his debut back in Houston after he turned his back on everyone and everything to do with Houston and even made a comment that will lead to the boo birds coming out. After leaving on bad terms Parsons put himself in more hot water with Houston Rocket fans by saying “Dallas is so much cleaner than Houston”. This will be the most interesting game to watch on a Saturday night in the NBA!
