Matrix fans rejoice! On May 1st, the full trilogy will be dropping on Netflix once again. The last time all three films were available was a short window from August to November of 2017. Netflix’ own @NXonNetflix Twitter account made the announcement Sunday afternoon.

Released in 1999, The Matrix was groundbreaking, mostly for its development of the “bullet time” effect. Reloaded and Revolutions declined in overall quality but fans of the original were pleased with what the Wachowskis delivered. The siblings went on to produce two seasons of the cult hit Sense8 for Netflix.
Unfortunately, the return to Netflix may be short-lived. Warner Brothers, the distributor of the franchise, has been making moves to start their own streaming service. It’s been expected that the Harry Potter films will headline the service’s catalog but, considering the enduring popularity of The Matrix, they’d be crazy to not exclusively host those as well. Fans certainly won’t be happy but, the industry is quickly moving to a streaming-centric model. Most major studios have their own streaming services going live in the next couple of years.
So, catch the Matrix trilogy on Netflix while you can after they hit Netflix May 1st.
