After the departure of Tyronn Lue Los Angeles has finally filled his position with former Point Guard Sam Casell. Back in 2008 Cassell was a former player of Doc’s in Boston. Cassell just finished coaching The Wizards summer league team earlier this summer and has been viewed around the league as a future coaching candidate. The Clippers also have hired Mike Woodson to join their staff, but have to fill the void that Alvin Gentry left on the teams bench as well.
With this move being made I wouldn’t be surprised to see Cassell get some serious head coaching consideration within the next year or two. Cassell leaves behind a young Washington Wizards team and I think John Wall and Bradley Beal’s success early on is in large part due to Cassell being on The Wizard’s staff.
The Clippers aren’t exactly the best fit in my eyes for Cassell just based off his knowledge of the game he would benefit more being on a young team like Washington where he can teach such a young team a thing or two. Not saying The Clippers won’t benefit from having him, but Chris Paul’s game won’t benefit from having Cassell as an Assistant like John Wall’s would in Washington. After this stop though there’s no doubt in my mind Cassell gets a head coaching position in the near future.
