Since its release Christmas Eve, The Interview has made over $15 million in digital downloads.
According to Variety, the controversial film has been downloaded over two million times, making it Sony Pictures highest-grossing online release.
The film stars James Franco and Seth Rogen as journalists hired to assassinate Kim Jong-un.
It was released on YouTube, Google Play and Xbox on Christmas Eve and in selected US cinemas on Christmas Day.
The film took in $1,811,000 its opening weekend.
Sony Pictures president of worldwide distribution Rory Bruer said:
“We worked hard to get the film out there by Christmas Day. It was such a whirlwind to get it done that it kind of amazes me that we were able to make it happen.”
The Interview was also made available to rent or purchase on iTunes in North America on Sunday (December 28).
