It seems like every year a couple teams catch the injury bug, and it plagues them and limits them to how well they are actually supposed to do. Two teams who have caught the bug early and pretty brutally are the Oklahoma City Thunder and The Chicago Bulls. Everyone knows whats happening with both stories, Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook along with an array of role players have been out for OKC. For Chicago the bug has been hitting them consistently throughout the years.
Chicago’s current injuries: Derrick Rose, Pau Gasol, Taj Gibson, and Kirk Hinrich.
Derrick Rose has been plagued with leg injuries throughout the last couple of years. After going down in the playoffs two years ago against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round, he just hasn’t been able to get back to the MVP Derrick we once knew. I know it’s a little to early to say this but are we seeing a Brandon Roy in the making? For those of you who don’t remember Brandon Roy played for the Portland Trailblazers in the early 2000’s and was plagued with knee and ankle injuries that eventually led to his short career and retirement. He was a crazy scorer. I really don’t hope this happens to Derrick Rose for the sake of the MVP.
The other three injuries in Pau Gasol, Taj Gibson and Kirk Hinrich, are day-to-day injuries and injuries that just happen when you are an NBA player. The thing that worries the Bulls organization and Bulls fans is that these injuries are all coming at the same time. The Bulls should be the best team in the east (Cavaliers are trying to find their way still), but they are far from in after losing against the Kings and Trailblazers in bad losses. Hopefully, Derrick Rose can get back to it, and Pau Gasol, Taj Gibson and Kirk Hinrich can come back within the weeks to continue to contribute.
