Team after team in both the college and professional ranks are getting involved in the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’. What is the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ you ask? Essentially, teams challenge other teams, douse themselves in buckets of ice cold water, then donate money towards the research of ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis).
Also known as Lou Gherig’s disease, ALS is a progressive, degenerative disease the effects the brain’s ability to initiate and control muscle movement. In the latter stages of the disease, patients are completely paralyzed.
The Ice Bucket Challenge has already generated half a million dollars towards finding the cure for ALS. Some notable teams and individuals involved are: Pete Carroll, The Seattle Seahawks, Julian Edelman, The Washington Redskins, Ronda Rousey, Aaron Rodgers, Bill Belichick, Robert Kraft, The New England Patriots, Chip Kelly, The Philadelphia Eagles and the list goes on and on. It has proved to be a fun way to promote a great cause. Check out some of the videos.
