The comedic stars of mega-hits ‘The Hangover’ and ‘The Hangover: Part II’ are apparently in negotiations to start filming the third entry this upcoming summer. But it’s going to cost Warner Bros. a lot more than last time. Stars Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, and Ed Helms all earned less than a million each for the first film and around 5 million for the second (not including backend box-office payments they received afterwards). This time around they are all asking for a reported 15 million dollars as well as a backend payment from box office receipts.
While that may seem like a lot, I actually think these guys deserve it. There are plenty of people in Hollywood that are making tons more for movies that are making a lot less at the box office. According to a list compiled by Forbes, for every $1 that Eddie Murphy is paid, his films return an average $2.70, perhaps Murphy should focus less on charging so much and more on picking a good film for once?
‘The Hangover’ films are a completely different story, they make bank! The first film made $467 million worldwide and the second made even more at $581 million. With the success of the last two films I’d say it’s pretty much a no-brainer that Warner Bros. is going to give in. But here’s the bigger question, do you think a third ‘Hangover’ film is actually worth being made? I’d actually say yes, while the second film was a carbon copy of the 1st, director Todd Phillips says it was meant to be a trilogy and he promises the final film will be ditching the lost memory storyline.
If all goes well with negotiations, the film will shoot this summer in LA and is set for a Memorial Day 2013 release.
