The Game is ordered to pay $7.1 million in damages after a federal judge denied him an opportunity for a new trial in a sexual assault case.
This decision follows a jury 2016 verdict that found him liable for sexual battery during a reality-television show date. According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Game faced allegations of assaulting Priscilla Rainey, a contestant on his VH1 reality dating show, She’s Got Game, during an “off-camera date.”
Rainey confronted The Game, legal name Jayceon Taylor, on camera and in front of other contestants, a key point on the legal battle. The incident occurred on May 2015 and in August 2016, Rainey sued for sexual battery.
On the date, The Game repeatedly groped Rainey, lifting her skirt in front of others at the bar. The Hollywood Reporter reports Circuit Judge TK Sykes believed The Game never took the legal proceedings seriously.
“He evaded process, trolled Rainey on social media, dodged a settlement conference, and did not bother to show up at trial. His attorney asked for a continuance, but the judge denied that request, dismissing Taylor’s proffered excuse as an elaborate ruse.” writes Judge Sykes.
