The Equalizer is returning to the small screen. According to Deadline, CBS has ordered a pilot for a reimagined version of the classic series with Queen Latifah attached to star. Veteran showrunners Andrew Marlowe & Terri Miller are attached to write the pilot and serve as showrunners if it is picked up to series.
The Equalizer originally aired on CBS from 1985 to 1989 starring Edward Woodward in the lead role. Back in 2014, the franchise was developed into a film directed by Antoine Fuqua. Denzel Washington played the title character in that film and its 2018 sequel. A small screen reboot has been in the works for a few years but it’s struggled to get off the ground until now.
In the new show, Queen Latifah will take on the role previously played by Washington and Woodward. She’ll reportedly play a very similar character with a mysterious background and broad skillset who uses those skills to help people with nowhere else to turn. No other cast information has been announced so far. Before becoming the Equalizer, Latifah is set to star alongside Shaggy in ABC’s Little Mermaid Live this week.
The Equalizer will likely air sometime during the 2020-2021 TV season.
