This month, the Cleveland Cavaliers have made a huge splash making two trades that have changed the atmosphere around this team and locker room for the better. The trades have helped Cleveland look like the contender everyone thought they would be in the beginning of the year, and now it looks like they may not be done just yet. The Cavs fixed one issue of depth at the center position and rim protection along with depth at shooting guard with the addition of J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert, but The Cavaliers still lack the back up point guard that can control the flow of the game and even score when asked to do so. Matthew Dellavedova is one of the better perimeter defenders at his position, but he cannot create his own shot, and that’s part of the reason The Cavs are looking to add depth there.
The two veteran guards they’re keeping tabs on would be former Pistons Guard Will Bynum and former Clipper Bobby Brown, both are playing in China right now but Bynum will only be available after the post season depending on how far the team goes which is sometime in March. Bobby Brown sort of brushed off the talk, but stated he had a level of interest.
“Right now, I’m focused on Dongguan and winning games with my teammates,” Brown told HoopsHype. “I will say this about Cleveland: How could anyone not want to play with LeBron? First off, he is the best player in the league and second, you have a chance to be a part of a championship team. Plus, playing in Europe, I was a big fan of (David) Blatt and always wanted to play for him. Also, I have known (David Griffin) since I was in the draft and have always been a huge believer in him.”
Right now Brown’s team isn’t eligible for playoffs and he should be available to utilize his NBA out clause sometime in February. Best case scenario for Cleveland is if they can add Will Bynum who we’ve seen can have some big nights scoring, but they’ll have some competition as other teams will be lining up for his services as well. Cleveland does have one downside to all this as they can only offer the veterans minimum to either player, but as you can see Brown more than likely wouldn’t be phased by this.
