It certainly has been a busy off season for The Cavaliers, but after their biggest move of signing LeBron James they clearly are not done yet. With The Cavs in need of some veteran leadership they are meeting with the 15 year veteran today to talk about joining the team. Marion certainly has a history with The Cavaliers General Manager David Griffin who both worked together in Phoenix, and Griffin saw Marion’s best years there of course. The Cavaliers can only offer the veterans minimum, but that doesn’t seem to bother Marion since he made the trip to Cleveland according to Marc Stein of ESPN.
Marion would help the teams perimeter defense and depth to the team which has been a weakness for The Cavaliers for years. Marion’s rebounding will also help make Cleveland a top ten rebounding team which they fell just short of last season averaging 44 total rebounds per game. If Cleveland can add Marion for the veteran minimum it could be a sign that they don’t see Ray Allen joining the roster, which the shooting guard doesn’t seem too interested in doing.
This is the fourth free agent the team has added via free agency, and The Cavaliers may not be done with a huge hole at the center position that still needs to be addressed. The Cavaliers are in win now mode and the plan is no secret to those around the NBA if Shawn Marion joins the team for the veterans minimum.
