Thabo Sefolosha was acquitted of all charges recently stemming from an incident earlier this year at 1Oak nightclub which also unfortunately saw fellow NBA player Chris Copeland get stabbed.
Sefolosha’s part in the incident wasn’t exactly clear at the time but the one fact we knew going into the trial was that Thabo missed the final weeks of the 2014-15 season and the entirety of the Hawks playoff run due to a broken leg suffered in the altercation with the police. According to reports from the trial, Sefolosha was giving money to a homeless man when the NYPD decided to take Sefolosha into custody.
Now, based off the injuries suffered and some of the bad press he received from it, Sefolosha will be suing the city of New York and eight NYPD cops for a hefty sum.
Following from the New York Post.
The NBA player who beat criminal charges of resisting arrest in a melee outside a Manhattan nightclub plans to sue the city and eight cops for up to $50 million over what he claims are “permanent” injuries, even though he’s back on the court — and dunking.
The physical “damages are permanent in nature and continuing into the future,” according to the notice of claim filed with the city’s comptroller.
Sefolosha’s defense lawyer, Alex Spiro, said the player’s exceptional performance on the court doesn’t mean he wasn’t permanently injured.
“Unfortunately, he may not be dunking as much as he was before this happened,” the attorney said.
Sefolosha has come back to the court and has been throwing down dunks during preseason games.

Thabo being back on the court is a great thing to see and hopefully he gets this case settled and the whole issue can be resolved without any more major repercussions.
