Shaka Smart waited for the right job offer and it looks like he found it.
After turning down multiple offers in the past, Shaka Smart is reportedly leaving VCU to accept an offer to become the next head basketball coach at the University of Texas. Smart will be replacing Rick Barnes, who was fired last weekend after 17 seasons at the school.
Smart brought notoriety to the VCU program, winning two conference titles and appearing in the NCAA tournament five times, including a Final Four trip back in 2011.
Smart will take over a Texas team that was bounced in the second round of the NCAA tournament this past month by Butler.
The VCU basketball team had a last second team meeting at 10pm Thursday night. Nobody would speak to reporters following the meeting but it is believed that the meeting was called by Smart to tell his players that he will be leaving for Texas.
