Terence Crawford has cemented his place in the boxing history books!
On Saturday, July 29, Terence Crawford entered a welterweight war with Errol Spence Jr. as a slight betting favorite. By the end of the night, Crawford eliminated any doubt about who the best welterweight fighter in the world is. The Omaha, Nebraska native moved through the first round somewhat cautiously as he and Errol Spence Jr. got comfortable in the ring. One round later, Crawford scored a flash knockdown and the rest of the night worked in his favor. The unbeaten fighter used his jam as a battering ram, hitting Spence Jr. with it dozens of times throughout the night. Then, he was able to finish the fight off with a few knockdowns in the seventh round and an emphatic stoppage in the ninth round.
“It means everything because of who I took the belts from,” Crawford said when asked about beating Spence Jr. to become the undisputed welterweight champion.
“They tried to blackball me. They kept me out. They talked badly about me. They said I wasn’t good enough and I couldn’t beat these welterweights. I just kept my head to the sky and kept praying to God that I would get the opportunity to show the world how great Terence Crawford is. Tonight, I believe I showed how great I am.”
After winning an undisputed title at 147 pounds, Crawford has his sights set on moving up to the super welterweight division. Errol Spence Jr. has expressed an interest in a rematch at a higher weight class and Crawford appears ready and willing to move up in weight yet again. The Omaha native has not only expressed a desire to fight Spence Jr., but he’s also called out the division’s undisputed champion — Jermell Charlo.
