Daniel “Tekashi 6ix9ine” Hernandez was released from prison today at 4 p.m. Hernandez’s attorney’s had began pushing for an early release from prison because of the health risks associated with confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic. Initial reports indicated that the New York artist’s sudden push for release would be unsuccessful. Moving in his favor, U.S. District Court Judge Paul A. Engelmayer has elected to place Hernandez on home confinement for the remainder of his sentence.
“The Court accordingly finds that, in light of the heightened medical risk presented to Mr. Hernandez by the COVID-19 pandemic, there are extraordinary and compelling reasons to reduce Mr. Hernandez’s sentence in the manner requested––to wit, releasing Mr. Hernandez from custody and requiring him to serve his first four months of supervised release in home confinement, on specified conditions,” Inner City reports the court stated.
Prior to the pandemic, Hernandez was set to return to society in August. It is unclear at the moment if he will choose to resume his music career after his arrest. Previous reports indicate that he has signed a deal with 10K Records. However, concerns for his safety may hinder his ability to tour.
Hernandez has not issued a public statement following his release.
