Overseas Elite won the championship game of The Basketball Tournament on Tuesday. Participating in one of the biggest summer tournaments, the team won a combined $2 million for their efforts.
Among the recipients of that money is TBT MVP Kyle Fogg. Fogg’s share of the winnings will be $174,000. More important is how Fogg is choosing to use his winnings.
After buying a new car for his mother, Fogg is planning on spending the money to help build a school in Ghana. He admitted as much after the game to ESPN’s John Goodman (h/t ArizonaSports.com):
“Now we gotta furnish the house and wanna get mom a new car and build a school in Ghana,” Fogg told ESPN reporter Jeff Goodman after Overseas Elite beat Team Colorado on Tuesday.
Fogg already had a fundraising program with a goal of $25,000 for this same purpose. So far, he has raised $18,565. Fogg plans to match every donation given to his cause.
This is an incredibly selfless act by Kyle Fogg who says that he wants to give children the same opportunity he had to get an education.
My goal is to raise 25,000$ to help build a school in Ghana. I don’t have a chance to accomplish this goal alone but with your help we can truly make a difference and change these peoples lives forever! You never know but this school could educate the child who is going to change the world!
