The New Orleans Saints have had quite the busy day in their crowded quarterback room, making some major changes just one day after the conclusion of the NFL Draft.
With Drew Brees still on the roster heading into next season, New Orleans will also have plenty of insurance behind him. After agreeing to a one-year deal with free-agent signal-caller Jameis Winston, the Saints have also inked swiss army knife Taysom Hill to a two-year contract extension according to Yahoo’s Charles Robinson. Head coach Sean Payton has expressed in the past that Hill may very well be the successor in New Orleans once Brees decides to hang it up.
The #Saints 2-year deal with Taysom Hill is for $21 million with $16 million guaranteed. It also includes another $1 million in earnable incentives. Very, very nice numbers to keep Hill in the fold through the 2021 season.

Though Taysom Hill is far from the conventional NFL quarterback, he has been a valuable piece of the Saints’ roster over the past couple of seasons. While he may not play many snaps under center, Payton uses Hill in various formations and caters to his versatile skillset.
Hill frequently lines up at tight end, halfback and fullback throughout a game. Hill played quarterback during his collegiate career at BYU but has been utilized as a change of pace option for the Saints.
It remains to be seen what New Orleans’ long term plan with Taysom Hill truly is. It appears that they’re not quite ready to hand him the backup role just yet, with Teddy Bridgewater filling in for the injured Drew Brees last season and now Jameis Winston on the roster. Brees likely only has a few years left and with a football player as skilled as Taysom Hill, he could be next in line for New Orleans if that’s the route Sean Payton and the front office elect to take.
