Rapper T.I. works with local Atlanta church to raise funds, posting bail for several non-violent offenders over the Easter holiday weekend.
The collaborative philanthropic effort includes the work of T.I., New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and Scrapp Deleon of Love And Hip Hop Atlanta. Each uses their platform to raise funds to combat the unfair standards of the justice system.
23 non-violent, mostly first time, offenders were able to post bail. The program began at the start of lent aiming to raise $40,000 to assist those behind bars. Fox 5 reports, donations went well beyond $40,000 earning $120,000 total.
The bail-out program does not stop at getting the alleged offenders from behind bars. New Birth plans to extend mentorship to each person released. Plans also include launching fundraising efforts for the children of those released.
“It’s like a whole new clean slate,” said Tyron Pollard a recipient of the bail-out program.
