Sylvester Stallone is set to direct ‘Creed 2’. The first ‘Creed‘ film was one of the most critically and commercially successful films of 2015. The film successfully reinvigorated the ‘Rocky’ franchise which had begun to fade from the consciousness of a new generation of moviegoers. Michael B. Jordan’s performance as Apollo Creed’s son was nothing short of spectacular. Though, the argument could be made that the reason ‘Creed’ was such a success was the direction by Ryan Coogler. Coogler is one of the best directors working in Hollywood today and has only made three films. With Coogler tied up in the production of ‘Black Panther’ the announcement that Sly would be taking over the directing duties is no real surprise. Sylvester Stallone has proven himself to be a more than capable director in the past by directing 2006’s ‘Rocky Balboa’ to critical and financial success. There’s no word yet on whether or not Mr. Stallone will be writing the film as well as directing, but last night via Instagram, he also announced that he will be producing the film. As of now, ‘Creed 2’ is on target for a late 2018 release.
Stay tuned for more ‘Creed 2’ news as it develops. We’ve posted the announcement that was made via Instagram below.
