Over the course of his long career, R. Kelly has been able to win dozens of awards and break a number of records in the music industry. However, he broke a record last night that I don’t think he was too happy to.
After last night’s premiere of Surviving R. Kelly, it’s clear that a number of people tuned in. Everyone from your aunt and uncle to Jemele Hill and Terry Crews tuned in and offered their thoughts on Twitter. You may be asking yourself, “How many people exactly watched this documentary?” According to Nielsen Media Research, 1.2 million adults between 25-54 tuned into the premiere. Furthermore, the documentary drew in nearly 900,000 women aged 25-54. The documentary also did well with slightly younger viewers. Nielsen Media Research showed that 1.1 million adults between 18-49 watched the premiere. These ratings mark the best performance for any unscripted program on the network in over three years.
The documentary series will continue tonight on Lifetime. The third and fourth hours of the documentary will air tonight at 9 p.m. On Saturday, the series will conclude with the final two hours of the documentary starting at 9 p.m. Follow our Def Pen for our live tweeting and recap during tonight’s edition of Surviving R. Kelly.
