The Phoenix Suns have 2 days to start again, they need to strip their team down, get rid of people like Markieff Morris and get people that’ll be loyal like PJ Tucker.
The mission is simple. Blow it up now and if done right you can avoid going in full on tank mode. You’ll have to rebuild certainly, but you have a chance not to tank and trading off Markieff Morris is a good start. Not sure you’ll get him for what you want though.
Suns general manager Ryan McDonough has been pursuing a package that includes a younger player and a first-round pick, league executives said. The Suns are motivated to honor Morris’ desire for a trade – and have no intention of bringing him back next season – but teams are starting to think the Suns could hold onto Morris past the Thursday trade deadline without a deal that brings back a player of value with a first-round pick.
The Suns could wait until the summer to move Morris when teams who have missed on free-agent priorities return aggressively into the trade market for the power forward. Morris’ contract has three years, $24 million left after this season, which is still on the low end for a player of his talent – whatever the recurring issues with his attitude and professionalism.
I’m not sure if there is a team that desperate for a power forward. Especially to trade off a young player AND a 1st rounder. Markieff is good, but not that good. Maybe bump that down to a 2nd rounder and maybe you have something but even then it depends on what young player you’re looking for. There are levels, you’ll be able to get Sam Dekker but no chance you’ll get Karl-Anthony Towns.
