Phoenix Suns swingman Gerald Green received his first DNP-CD last night as his Suns routed the Chicago Bulls 99-93. This is his first DNP when he is available since he became a Phoenix Sun before the 2013-2014 NBA season began.
Considering Gerald Green played a major part in his Suns stunning the NBA last season and a has contributed plenty to their 28-20 record this season, many took this as a bad sign. Some thought Green was going to get traded while others thought he was being disciplined. Turns out it was just a match up issue and Suns coach Jeff Hornacek clarified that.
“We have a lot of guys that can play,” Hornacek said. “I thought Goran and Eric going up against Rose and Butler and these guys was just a better match and they were playing 40 minutes. There are only so many minutes out there. We just went with the shorter rotation. Maybe tomorrow, it’s his night.”
It’s worth noting that Green who’s been known to get upset in the past for getting pulled out of games was seen being pretty upbeat on the bench. It was also said that Green was upbeat and professional in the locker room with reporters following the game. I’m not surprised to hear that because it’s been stated on numerous occasions Gerald Green loves the situation he’s in.
Plus if this match up picture on the Suns website is any indicator, I’m willing to bet Green plays plenty tonight.
