There has been a longstanding advocacy for the reunion of former teammates DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall. Recent reports, however, suggest a different Kentucky alum could once again play alongside Cousins. According to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro, the Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings have discussed a potential trade centered around DeMarcus Cousins.
Gambadoro reports the discussions have centered around involving small forward T.J. Warren, center Alex Len, Phoenix’s first-round pick this year and possibly more. The Suns own all of their future picks and also own two future Miami Heat first-round picks from the Goran Dragic deal.
Despite this, it would still be a slight surprise to see Cousins traded. He is the superstar caliber player that nearly every team is looking for. DeMarcus Cousins has also already stated his desire to re-sign with the Kings, but nearly anything can happen in free agency.
With Cousins’ dominance on the basketball court still not turning into many wins, the front office may get antsy. It is up to them to decide whether his talent is still worth the antics before it is too late. The trades that have been discussed at least seem to have the Kings with one eye on the future. Tempting as it may be to “win now” getting draft picks and young pieces is the best formula when trading a superstar.
