Jeff Hornacek is a very underrated coach, remember a couple of years ago when he was taking Phoenix nearly to the Playoffs? Those were good times.
Since then, the Phoenix Suns have made a lot of trades, so many that I’m surprised Hornacek still has hair. How can you do your job when the front office constantly have your players on a conveyer belt? But no, he’s dealt with it and nearly got Phoenix into the Playoffs.
Another reason why he’s a good coach is because whenever there’s a problem in the organisation, he sticks his head in at the best time. Take Markieff Morris for instance, the Suns know where they stand, Markieff has already thrown the toys out the pram and has been fined for said throwing. Enter Hornacek.
“It’s a case of hopefully he can get here and we can all talk to him,” Hornacek said. “I think, once he gets here with the players, maybe the players can help with that regard and realize that probably, like anything else, it happens when you might not be happy with the organization. But you’re a professional. You go out there and play as hard as you can. Really, when you get out there and start playing games, you’re not playing for the organization. You’re probably not even playing for your coaches. You’re playing for yourself and your teammates because that’s the bond those guys have as players. Once he gets playing with these guys, I think he’ll be OK.”
This is the perfect time to say this and it’s also the perfect time for Hornacek to have a one-to-one with Markieff. Make him feel a little better about staying. Because we all know he’s playing in Phoenix come hell or high water.
