Phoenix Suns big man Alan Williams signed an extension this summer which was a surprise to some. He inked a three-year, $17 million deal with the team following a solid 47 game performance in 2016-17. With the Suns’ current frontcourt rotation full of underwhelming lottery picks, the team needed to keep some stability around. Unfortunately for them, it appears ‘Big Sauce’ will miss some time going into the season.
Just a couple of days before the Phoenix Suns begin training camp, it Williams has reportedly suffered a partially torn meniscus during a recent practice.

Williams was presumably penciled in as the starting power forward for the team alongside either Tyson Chandler or Alex Len at center. Depending on the extent of the injury, the team could miss Williams for an extended period of time and be forced to either start Jared Dudley or depend on second-year players Marquese Chriss or Dragan Bender to supplement his minutes. The signing of Anthony Bennett earlier in the day now makes a little more sense.
