Ryan Anderson has had a tough couple of years when it comes to life, not just basketball.
In one year he had to mourn the death of his girlfriend, Gia Allemand, who committed suicide in August 2013. Then the next summer he had to recover from a horrible neck injury where his basketball future was put into question.
Through all that, he’s still here. He’s playing for the Pelicans and after two years of heartache, Anderson has had a good Summer and is ready to go.
“I had a few rough summers in a row,” Anderson said. “So, for me, just having some time to actually work on my body [was helpful]. I had a great summer just to clear my mind.”
“I think he’s been great,” Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry said. “I think he came in probably in the best shape he’s been in his whole career. He lost a few pounds. His body looks great.”
“The basketball part of it is coming back,” Anderson said. “I don’t play a ton of basketball during the summer, so obviously getting into competitive games, it takes a little while to get yourself back. But I feel great right now. I feel I’m in a good place.“
There’s nothing better than watching somebody still carry on despite many trials and tribulations.
He had a bad year in terms of basketball but I feel that he will bounce back immediately. Watch him provide a massive impact for the Pelicans this season. He’s lost weight, he’s healthy, watch him drop those threes like there’s no tomorrow.
