Succession is set to return in 2023 with another chapter of the Roy family saga. While fans eagerly await to see what happens next, the cast and crew of the HBO hit series are already out in Norway working on the next batch of episodes. During a recent interview with Variety, one of the show’s lead producers, Scott Ferguson, explained that tech mogul Lukas Matsson, played by Alexander Skarsgård, will play a major role in the next chapter of the drama.
“Last season we had an important new character and a new storyline, a potential merger with Alexander Skarsgård’s tech company,” Ferguson told the entertainment news outlet.
“We were really excited when Alexander came onboard — he’s a wonderful actor. And from the beginning, [showrunner Jesse Armstrong’s] idea was that the tech company was going to be led by someone from a Scandinavian country. In the writer’s room, around February, Jesse had an idea for an episode they wanted to be in [Matsson’s] part of the world.”
With an increased dose of Lukas Matsson, fans can expect a lesser dose of scenes set in New York. During his conversation with Variety, Ferguson explained that season four will be primarily set in Europe.
“When we saw images of the remarkable architecture and setting of Juvet we got really excited,” Ferguson explained.
“Norway is a glorious, natural setting. It immediately seemed like a perfect place for a family gathering in the series. We studied different countries, but we realized Norway just has this exceptional landscape — like nowhere else in the world.”
HBO has not set a release date for the season four premiere, but it appears that it will come sooner rather than later.
