StubHub has sued the Golden State Warriors and TicketMaster for creating a monopoly on ticket sales for the Warriors. The Warriors told their season ticket holders they were only allowed to sell their tickets on TicketMaster, or else their tickets could be taken away. StubHub is suing under the stance they ticket holders should be allowed to sell their ticket on their website without any penalties.
With the success of the Warriors this season, tickets have been coming at a premium for fans in California and surrounding regions. Higher demand created higher prices, and higher prices mean more money can be made from the third party that serves as the middle man for ticket sales. By forcing fans to sell on their site, Golden State will be making money that otherwise would have been going to StubHub.
If StubHub is able to win the case, they will surely profit from more ticket sellers coming to them to sell their tickets. This problem would have never came up years ago, but now the Warriors are a team that can be profited from on all sides. Having a problem such as where tickets are allowed to be sold is actually a good issue from a standpoint of winning basketball games.
