Netflix has appointed Zimbabwean billionaire Strive Masiyiwa to their board of directors. The streaming giant hopes that Masiyiwa will help expand the company’s footprint on the continent of Africa.
“We are delighted to welcome Strive to the Netflix board,” Netflix CEO Reed Hastings.
“His entrepreneurship and vision in building businesses across Africa and beyond will bring valuable insights and experience to our board as we work to improve and serve more members all around the world.”
Masiyiwa takes over for Susan Rice who recently left the board to take a position with President-Elect Joe Biden’s administration. Prior to joining the board of directors, Masiyiwa worked as the chairman and founder of Econet Group.
“Netflix is at the forefront of bringing great entertainment from anywhere in the world to everyone in the world, and I look forward to working with the board and all stakeholders to continue its traditions of innovation and growth,” Masiyiwa said.
As he joins the Netflix Board of Directors, he will also continue to serve on the boards of National Geographic, Unilever and Stanford University.
