Universal Music Group Executive Steven Victor has committed $1 million towards community empowerment and criminal justice reform through his newly launched, Victor Victor Foundation.
“I’m committing $1,000,000 to the foundation — it’s a starting point and I know it’s going to take much more than that to affect real change,” Victor told Variety.
His newly launched foundation will lie at that intersection of fighting systematic racism an criminal justice ills. He hopes to change the lives of his children and generations to come.
“The injustices against the black community that persists in our country, fueled by systemic racism and prejudice that lies within the criminal justice system and other institutions, must stop. No one should be conditioned to cope with the worst of humanity on a daily basis,” the foundation’s mission statement reads.
Victor is a longtime music mogul who has worked his way up through G.O.O.D Music and Def Jam. In addition, he has represented some of music’s biggest names such as Pusha T and The Dream. Most recently, he helped to propel the career of the late Pop Smoke.
