Oklahoma City Thunder center Steven Adams is a little bit out there, and his free throw practicing routine is the most Steven Adams thing ever. From Fred Katz of the Norman Transcript:
He plays one of the most physical styles of any NBA player. And he owns an unmatched, eccentric personality. So, when he’s working from the charity stripe, he has Thunder assistant coach Darko Rajakovi? come out of nowhere and, every once in a while, upper-cut him in the stomach just when he least expects it.
Then, it’s free-throw time.
This is essentially a more intense take on the “shoot free throws in between sprints” strategy. Adams’ intention is making sure that he’s ready to knock down his free throws after taking a particularly hard foul. It does make some sense as a method to simulate in-game conditions.
Adams, 24, has played four seasons in the NBA, all with the Thunder. His 61.1 percent from the foul line last season was the best of his career, but still not a very good percentage.
Adams signed a four-year contract extension worth around $100 million with the Thunder last fall.
