For the second time this season, the Baltimore Ravens will be losing one of their veteran playmakers to an achilles injury. Earlier in the season, the Ravens lost pass rusher Terrell Suggs to an achilles injury and yesterday it was announced that the Ravens would be losing wide receiver Steve Smith Sr for the season due to an achilles injury.

Steve Smith’s retirement tour was cut short Sunday in the cruelest way imaginable.
Ravens coach John Harbaugh announced that Smith suffered a torn Achilles during the team’s 29-26 win over the Chargers in Baltimore.
“He’s pretty shook up about it,” Harbaugh said after the game. “Shook up’s not a right word. He’s just really — he’s hurting.”
Smith said the following on his Twitter account.
#RavensNation luv u ,thank you for letting me be apart. Unfortunately I will be #iceupson Nite ???? #agent89 pic.twitter.com/T2M3XUP7Vp

Although Smith did say that this year would be his last, that image of Steve Smith on the ground in pain and getting carried off the field is not how anyone wants to see one of the best go down. Smith reportedly is planning to return in 2016 after undergoing surgery today.

Ravens star receiver Steve Smith has scheduled a quick surgery on Nov. 9 with intentions of playing football next season, sources said. Smith’s season ended Sunday when he tore his Achilles tendon in the Ravens’ victory against the Chargers.
Smith had said this would be his final season but several people close to him said he is already talking about a return and the Ravens would welcome him back. Smith faces a long return, but the sooner he gets the Achilles repaired the earlier he could conceivably make it back in 2016. Dr. Andrews, an esteemed surgeon, is scheduled to conduct the repair in Charlotte next week.
Hopefully this means we’ll be able to see Steve Smith for one more season paired up with Joe Flacco.
