Lakers fans have been patient since Mike D’Antoni was hired, mindful of the fact that they haven’t had the right point guard to lead the famed offense that the coach is known for. Well, now Steve Nash is set to come back after almost two months on the sideline with a fractured leg, ready to propel the team above .500. Nash completed his first couple of full-contact practice sessions this week since the injury, and says he is a certain starter for the Christmas Day game against the Knicks –and perhaps even sooner, in tonight’s game against the Warriors.
“There’s probably a low chance tomorrow,” Nash said yesterday following practice at the Lakers’ facility. “But I’m definitely playing on Christmas for sure.”
Nash has missed 24-games because of the injury and D’Antoni was excited about the prospect of having his two-time MVP back on the court.
“It gives us excitement,” D’Antoni said. “We know we’ll have some problems. We always do. But to have a two-time MVP running your thing? Nothing against the other guys, but he’s unbelievable and he knows what he’s been running forever. This is what we’ve brought him for, hopefully he has a chance to do it.”
