Steve Nash Says He Will Likely Retire After This Season
Turning 41 years old this Februrary, Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash is just about to ready to hang it up. Going into his 19th season, Nash is ready to enjoy his last go-round, as he told Bill Oram of the Orange County Register,
For me, this is my last year of basketball, most likely. So I’m not putting any pressure on myself other than to enjoy and to work as hard as I can. … To enjoy it for the last time is the goal.
A myriad of injuries as of late has kept Nash off the floor consistently. He only played 15 games for the Lakers last season and averaged 6.8 points and 5.7 assists.
While Nash reportedly showed signs this summer of returning to at least a sustainable form, it’s been difficult for the veteran to hold up over extended periods of time. Nash’s game is such that when healthy, maybe at any age, he’ll help your team be effective offensively.
Who knows how many more pocket, shovel, and no-look passes we’ll see from one of the game’s great facilitators, so let’s appreciate his last ride accordingly.
