Before Steve Nash came into the NBA and took the game by storm with his fancy dribbling, sick passing and great floor command there was someone who set the stage for him to be able to play this way.
‘Pistol’ Pete Maravich is often forgotten about when people talk about all-time great players. He played 10 years in the NBA including being named an NBA All-Star five times, a four-time member of the All-NBA team, he was named one of the NBA’s 50 Greatest players, elected to the basketball Hall of Fame in 1987 and he had his number 7 jersey retired by both the New Orleans Pelicans an Utah Jazz.
Maravich’s shining accomplishments in the NBA might be overshadowed by his dominance in the NCAA. He broke Oscar Robertson’s all-time scoring record, averaging a blistering 44.2 points per game without a three-point line! Maravich finished his college career with 3,667 points, the most in NCAA history, a mark that still stands to this day.
Pistol Pete’s story of a life full of tragedy, an early death and basketball success will be getting the movie treatment soon and it appears that future NBA Hall-of-Famer Steve Nash will be in on the project.

Emmy-nominated filmmaker Brett Rapkin has teamed up with eight-time NBA All-Star Steve Nash and his Meathawk Productions to fast-track a feature film detailing the brilliant yet tragic life and career of NBA Hall of Famer “Pistol” Pete Maravich, TheWrap has learned.
Rapkin recently optioned Maravich’s life rights from his estate under his Podium Pictures banner and has begun writing the screenplay. Nash will produce with Rob Goodrich, Ezra Holland and George Roy.
“Pete is one of my favorite players of all time. I truly admired him and wanted to be more like him. I think we have a great team in place to tell his story in a genuine and heartfelt way that would give this legend the spotlight he deserves and tell a younger generation all about the genius he was,” said Nash.
Production is slated to start next year in Louisiana, longtime home to the Maravich family.
