Lakers fans prayed for the best when Steve Nash limped off court in the second quarter of last night’s loss to the Portland Trailblazers, fearing that their season may be derailed by injury before it had a chance to gather momentum. Nash was today diagnosed with a a lower left leg contusion and will be re-evaluated later today to determine how long the veteran point guard will be out for, if at all.
Nash said he had not experienced an injury like this throughout his time in the league.
“I’ve had contusions before but not necessarily in this spot, it’s kind of frustrating. I guess I wouldn’t want to say right now (whether he will play) but I’m definitely hopeful,” Nash told reporters after the game.
Los Angeles have started the season 0-2, and have not dropped three straight to begin a season since 1978. They face Staples Center co-tenants, the Clippers, on Friday night.
