The Brooklyn Nets have announced that they have parted ways with their Head Coach Steve Nash after a turbulent tenure with the franchise. After an offseason full of drama and trade requests the team has decided to move on from the Hall of Fame point guard at the beginning of his third season with the team. Assistant Coach Jacque Vaughn will coach the team on Tuesday night but expect the team to move quickly to find Nash’s permanent replacement. Former Utah Jazz Head Coach Quinn Snyder and currently suspended Boston Celtics Head Coach Ime Udoka have already been linked to the vacancy.

In his tenure with the Brooklyn Nets, Steve Nash coached the team to a disappointing overall record of 94-67. The team lost in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in his first year and was swept in the first round of the 2022 NBA Playoffs the following year. Brooklyn and Nash were off to a lackluster 2-5 start this season before the team announced that they were parting ways with him effective immediately.
Jacque Vaughn is the acting head coach tonight but expect the Nets to inquire with suspended Celtics coach Ime Udoka, Quin Snyder, among others. Boston will let Udoka leave for another job.

The Brooklyn Nets released a statement about the decision via General Manager Sean Marks: “We want to thank Steve for everything he brought to our franchise over the past two-plus seasons. Since becoming head coach, Steve was faced with a number of unprecedented challenges, and we are sincerely grateful for his leadership, patience and humility throughout his tenure. Personally, this was an immensely difficult decision; however, after much deliberation and evaluation of how the season has begun, we agreed that a change is necessary at this time.”
In his statement, Steve Nash thanked Marks and called his time with Brooklyn an “amazing experience with many challenges that I’m incredibly grateful for.” We here at Def Pen Sports will provide an update when the Nets make a coaching decision.
