The Golden State Warriors have won three of the last four NBA titles. Much of that can and should be attributed to the stars of the team like Steph Curry and Klay Thompson. However, it cannot be overstated the impact that head coach Steve Kerr has on the team. And he will be rewarded for that.
According to an exclusive report from NBC Sports’ Monte Pool, Kerr and the Warriors have agreed to a multi-year extension. The exact details of the contract have not been specified, but a source tells NBC Sports that it is worth $10 million annually.
Given the madness of free agency, Kerr got his news out quickly before it got buried. “My goal with this thing is for there not to be any news on details and then free agency begins tonight and it gets lost in the shuffle and nobody cares,” Kerr tells NBC Sports. “I signed a multi-year extension,” he added. “And that’s it.”
The extension for Steve Kerr is certainly warranted. If the rumor is true, he would be one of the highest-paid coaches in the NBA. Kerr is currently operating under a five-year $25 million contract, making the $10 million per year figure a 100% increase. But really, any coach who can understand and calm down Draymond Green deserves an extension.
